A Definition of Style...

Dear Readers,

As Editor in Chief of this blog I want to address the term of a gentleman. What is a gentleman? And better yet, what is a gentleman's gentleman?

There are many different definitions. For most the title evokes thoughts of cool and danger a la' James Bond; of nobility, class and social grace (Fred Astaire), mixed with cowboy ruggedness and Americana style (Clint Eastwood), of rebel, and loneliness (James Dean), or bravery and brawn and all around charm (Clark Gable).

Whatever the idea that comes to mind - style is an important part of the ever changing definitional degrees that is a gentleman.

That brings us to a whole other playing field: what is style? Who has it? And where does it come from?

Growing up the definition of a gentleman was ever progressive for me; though one thing remained the same: he knows himself, and his style reflects that. Be it rebel or refined, his sartorial lines and silhouettes reflected a persona of knowledge. Where he was going, where he had been, what he experienced along the way.

It was a man who did not seek to compromise the emotions, comforts or actions of others; all the while staying true to his own self and thus not compromising his own.

So what is a gentleman's gentleman? In history it was a servant; a valet. A concierge being ever present to help, to problem solve, to anticipate the next move of his gentleman. An anticipation of what lies ahead: be it life, art or style.

I hope in by starting this venture - I can help bring some definition to your own style. Or perhaps...

We can both help define each other.

Sincerely,

Eric Z.
